The London List

Isn't it crazy that you rarely take a day out to explore the area in which you live and yet when you go away somewhere new you can see all the sights and delights a city or area has to offer in just a long weekend? This is something I've been thinking about a lot recently as I've read loads of great posts about places and sights in London that I've still not experienced. This is most definitely something I want to rectify over the coming months as I need to explore areas of London that I don't already know (places like the V&A Museum, the Natural History Museum, Clapham Common, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, China Town, St Paul's, etc). I want to start taking days out (at the weekend or on the odd weekday) to discover new areas of this amazing city so that I stop feeling like I'm failing as a Londoner. With that in mind below is my list of 'must-see' places right on my doorstep which I need  to visit and learn all about asap.

  • The entirety of Hyde Park (no small feat I know!)
  • The Museum of Childhood (this is meant to be fascinating so I really must find time to go there)
  • Hampstead Heath
  • Notting Hill (for the market and just generally to explore)
  • Ride the Emirates Air Line (the views are meant to be stunning so I'll have to get over my fear of heights...)
  • Take a tour of Buckingham Palace
  • Westminster Abbey (I just know that the inside of it will be even more stunning than I imagine)
  • The Barbican (I keep reading about how much there is to see - the garden oasis and seeing a play there are top of this list)
  • Kew Gardens

What do you think am I missing anything else? What would you add to your own must-see list (either for London or where you live)?
